How Little Monkeys Crochet became Yarn + Chai

Hey! I’m Rebecca, the designer behind Little Monkeys Crochet. I’m guessing you’re here because you wanted a little more information about why I decided to take a big chance and completely rebrand myself as Yarn + Chai. Well, I’ll tell you!

If you haven’t had a chance to watch my announcement video, here it is. Scroll down to read the whole story!

When Little Monkeys Was Born

Waaaaaay back in 2012 (seriously, it seems like a lifetime ago), I started selling handmade children’s hats on Etsy. I named my new shop after my two boys, my “little monkeys”, and my business was born. I was a newer crocheter at the time, but it didn’t take long before I figured out that it was more fun to come up with my own patterns than it was to follow someone else’s. Eventually, and at the urging of my husband (who usually believes in me more than I believe in myself), I started blogging my patterns in early 2014.

When Little Monkeys Grew Up

Over the next few years, as I worked to become a better designer and blogger, I started to narrow my focus. I saw a need in the crochet world for modern, trendy patterns, and whenever I released one, the response was amazing. So, I made the decision to continue down that path. The Little Monkeys Crochet brand grew bigger and bigger, but deep down, I knew that one day, I was going to need a new identity. Don’t get me wrong – I love Little Monkeys and it holds a special place in my heart. But it was time for a change.

When Little Monkeys Became Yarn + Chai

So about a year ago, after a lot of soul-searching, back-and-forth inner debate, and prayer, I made the decision to go for it. I knew it was going to be risky. I knew I was taking a chance. But I knew it had to be done. So I came up with a new, more grown-up name (Yarn + Chai = two of my favorite things), went through the crazy-intense process of rebuilding a brand and a new web site, and now here we are… it’s time to LAUNCH!

What Happens Now?

Little Monkeys Crochet will stick around for a little while, but not forever. Soon, you’ll start to see your favorite patterns redirecting to the new site. And don’t worry, everything is on the new site – it just looks a little different!

That’s Great. Now Can I Have My Free Gift?

Of course! If you haven’t had a chance to grab your free ad-free PDF pattern yet, go to the new shop page and choose any single pattern. Add it to your cart, and checkout with coupon code “YARNANDCHAI”. You’ll get it for free!
